How to Style Your Hair Extensions:
Hair extensions… for a while they were seriously ALL the rage! Now, they are something people seem to almost want to keep on the DL. Why? I’m not sure, but I think people love to hide their insecurities… and maybe their weave is part of that? I for one don’t mind talking about them at all. My hair extensions have saved my life the last few years. I was somehow convinced to cut my hair the year of my wedding. What? Yeah I know. Crazy, right? It left me with shoulder length hair after having hair that reached my lower back for years. Granted, it wasn’t in the best shape, but maybe my stylist at the time had never heard of olaplex?
Anywho, I was left feeling naked. I needed my hair back. This was during the time that clip in hair extensions were all the rage. You were seeing them all over the place from bloggers to youtubers… celebrities and everything in between. People couldn’t get enough of hair extensions. I have had three sets now… and they last so long (If you care for them properly). They also add some crazy volume and help to make some hair styles more appealing than they would have been sans extensions.
I’ve always had an issue though… how the heck do you style them? For curling… it wasn’t a major issue because I would just clip them in and style them with my hair. The main issue was washing and drying. Oh. My. Gah. It sucks. My bathroom seriously turned into a weave factory (or it looked like one anyway) with hair ALL over the place. I had to lay them out, brush them out, and I even started using pant hangers to hang them and try drying them that way. Such a mess.
I was so excited to find that there is now an alternative. Easiweft! Easiweft is a styling station that you can mount on your wall. It allows you to store your extensions and also dry and style them so much easier. It took a quarter of the time it did in the past to style my extensions this way. Praise hands FOR REAL!
This is my hair 100 natural. I’ve only dried it here. Absolutely no other styling has been done.
Brushing + Drying:
Have you ever tried to give yourself a blowout? I for one, cannot do it. I’ve tried a million times. I cannot handle a huge round brush plus my dryer all at the same time. If you can do that, you’re basically a magic hair unicorn. Seriously. This is basically the same. Having the Easiweft to hold the extensions while you style them is a total game changer. If you have knots to brush out, no worries. It also helps to smooth out the extensions. If you’ve been wearing them for a while, you know that extensions can get frizzy if you don’t treat them well. This helps!
I typically style my extensions in with my own hair. This time I tried to use the station and then put them in. To be honest… I didn’t see a difference and this felt a lot easier. I did have to go back in and curl a couple sections again to help them blend, but overall this got the same effect. I use this 1″ curling want with my extensions. I find that I get the best result with this. Without my extensions I gravitate toward my other curling wands.
For actually putting in your extensions, you want to make sure you keep them even. You will have to section off your hair by layers and if you get them crooked, the line at the base of your hair will also be crooked. Not cute ya’ll. Just section it off and feel the area. You can usually tell just from touch if you’ve made a mistake.
The Finished Product:
I had my extensions colored to match my hair and also trimmed to keep them from being too long. I like my extensions for volume now that my base length is much longer. This makes a huge difference. If I want pretty girl volume, you can bet I’ve clipped in my extensions that day. Brush through them once you’ve clipped them in and find any areas that need to be re-curled to better blend. Set with a flexible hair spray and you’re good to go!
I usually only use 4 of the 10 wefts in my set. You can do whatever works for you. I find that with all 10 in, it starts to feel heavy and with 4-5 I barely even notice them. Just my preference!
You seriously need an Easiweft in your life. You can use glitter10 to get 10% off yours!
The Easiweft Styling Station has completely changed my hair extension game. I don’t dread using them like I used to. It took all of 2 minutes to install and isn’t large, ugly, or bulky. I put mine in the bathroom because for now that is where I get ready. When we move I hope to have a setup with my vanity that works well for me, but for right now this is easiest for me.
