EEK! 12 Days to Christmas ya’ll! How does this always happen… Halloween comes and then we blink and BAM: CHRISTMAS! Crazy enough, this is my first holiday home decor post. In almost 5 years…
There’s a story there. Luke and I have been Married for almost 4 years. My first year of blogging was ALL over the place. Luke and I weren’t married… so I didn’t have a “nest” to really work with then. Our first year… well… you know how that goes. We were merging our lives together and fun fact; he is also an only child. Talk about power struggle. We had some major eye sores lurking the house from his bachelor days. It was hardly blog worthy… for reals.
Our second Christmas got a little better, but he still wasn’t quite into my whimsical style… things take time with that man. We had a very… Southern Christmas that year. Still lots of red and green… (Not saying at all that there is anything wrong with red and green galore… it’s just not my style).
Finally last year we made it work. We had the perfect color story picked out and we ran with it. I call it the Dr. Suess house because… duh! I still love lots of the elements, but it will get a little taming and boho touches next year. So this year, at first I told Luke I wanted a SUPER tame Christmas… maybe a tree and that’s it. We knew it was going to be our last Christmas in our house and it seemed silly to go all out. I felt super over it to be honest.
Then reality set in. Our little home that we have shared so many memories in. Luke has lived in that house since we started dating, we spent a lot of our engaged moments in that house, it was the home we came back to after our honeymoon, and the big tear jerker for me is that it’s the only home Rose and Lemon know. Cue the tears. . . I needed to do a little something… it needed to be special.
I didn’t want to spend a lot of money… because until you get into a new house… you don’t know what’s going to work in the space. So a few little touches made a HUGE difference… and I was able to pull what I think is pretty beautiful together with just spending a little over $30!Â
We’ve had our tree for almost three years now. We actually got in online from a random retailer… We will continue to use this in our new home, but it will be more of either an office or bedroom tree. We want something a little bigger for next year… maybe even a real tree!
Our little bar cart is finally coming to life! We got this at Target about a year ago and absolutely love it! We actually found the letterboard at Hobby Lobby and got it for under $20! It was the biggest spend we had for Christmas decor this year. The other trinkets are greenery from Trader Joe’s (I spent under $20 total to decorate three rooms! crazy!), TJ Maxx (the pineapple and tray), and we actually got those disco ball ornaments from Big Lots! They were $5 a box (for like 12 or so I think…) so a SUPER great deal! I’m sure they have them somewhere now too! Big Lots is a hidden gem!
The bulk of our Christmas ornaments came from Hobby Lobby! They are usually 40% off so you can get enough for your whole tree for under $50!
My precious little disco ball tumbler is Packed Party via My Kind of Lovely! I literally use this everyday! It’s a great conversation starter if you have company over… and of course perfect for those instagram shots!
I got these little pine cones at Big Lots a couple years ago. I use them ALL the time! They work for fall into winter and you can use them after Christmas. They are $5 a bag! I just mixed them into this basket set from TJ Maxx with some of our ornaments. It turned out so cute!
This little setup is always a favorite. I got this letter set from Pier One. They sadly don’t have it anymore, but these are sold individually and you can make them say whatever you want!
I got this chalkboard from Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon. It ended up being $35 I think! The Greenery is 1/3 of the fresh garland I bought from Trader Joe’s for $6 mixed with a sprig of eucalyptus that I paid $3 a pack for! So so crazy and It turned out beautifully! The quote is actually just lyrics from Coldplay’s song Yellow. It’s the song we walked down the aisle to and will always be special to me.
When I was at Trader Joes I got a holiday mix of greenery for $5. I simply cut it apart and layered it here as a centerpiece. I love how it turned out. It’s making our kitchen smell amazing! The plates are from this set, napkins were a random find, and those placemats… I honestly have no idea where they are from. Those little napkin rings were $3 in the Target dollar section!
I get more questions about this rug than anything else I have ever shown on Intagram Stories! We have this print in three different sizes. I love them!
I did the same with the garland here. I did have to use some clear elastics to adhere the garland, but it was SUPER easy! Promise!
