As things get crazier during this pandemic we are all having to come up with creative ways to maintain our normal services at home. For me, the biggest hang up is hair. I can pretty easily figure out how to paint my nails, but I rely heavily on my stylist Ashlond Webb at Whitney Evans Beauty to keep this mane in check. So, I reached out to get her insight and best professional advice to that I could share it with you and hopefully help you keep your hair fresh during quarantine.
Tips To Extend Your Color While The Salon Is Closed:
NO HEAT!!!
Make sure when you wash your hair to let your hair air dry, NOT using heat is going to make the biggest difference while on this break. A fun way to style your hair and to keep from having to use any hot tools on it is to let your hair air dry until it’s about 50% dry, braid your hair and let it do the rest while you’re asleep.
When you wake up in the morning, take the the braids out and you will have a messy beach wave without any hot tools. There are also some products out there for when you want to air dry your hair if you deal with frizz like me. My personal favorite is the Pureology Air Dry Cream. I will link it here.
PROFESSIONAL SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER:
Now more than ever you need to make sure and use a professional shampoo and conditioner. I ALWAYS recommend using one but this is a big way to prolong your color during this time… so if you haven’t made this switch, NOW IS THE TIME!!
If you want to take it one step further, you can get the Redken Color Extend Magnetics. This shampoo is SULFATE-FREE so this is going to help extend your hair color even more. Linked here.
TURN DOWN YOUR WATER TEMPERATURE IN THE SHOWER:
This one is the hardest for me to do because your girl LOVES a hot shower, but the hot water will actually fade your color. If you use hot water on your hair, it opens the cuticle and washes it out. What I like to do is start off with cooler water while washing my hair and then when I get completely done with my hair, I turn the temperature up for my body.
HOW TO KEEP YOUR GRAY COVERED UNTIL YOUR NEXT APPOINTMENT:
NOW…. Lastly, for all my ladies with a little more wisdom and sparkle, if ya know what I mean 😉 There are sprays out there for you to get you by while we are closed.We recommend the L’Oréal Root Cover Up Spray (linked here). This is a spray that will last in your hair until you wash it out. This is a much safer thing to do instead of coloring your own roots and could potentially save you money. One wrong step while coloring your own hair could cause you a costly color correction in the salon and you don’t want that! So stay away from box color and take the spray route! You can find this on amazon or any drugstore.
